We Are Tired of Politics, But We Have To Talk About It

The press is in a whirlwind lately with Trump unleashing his policies that angers the people in the Middle East, mostly about him and his smug treatment of reporters, and unsuspecting people might think that the United States is the enemy. The press loves a good story, and what is read is read, but not everyone can interpret everything right.

What is written is based on facts and research, unless it is editorialized, and the media should be responsible in what they do or how they build the angle. Opinion writing plays a big part in balancing what is reflected in the news, and to do it responsibly is to help readers understand what is happening in the front page. We all love controversies, but not everyone is capable of understanding it.

Balanced news is impossible to achieve because news writing depends on facts which is known, and a little information based on what is known, but not everything is known. The story might interview both sides of what was written, but not everything is said.

Sometimes, people do not read the news because it is too depressing. Politics is tiring, but politics is a necessary evil of democracy. The rule of the majority requires division, that is why our opinion is divided.

In a way, media and newspaper is a business and the way stories are printed and broadcasted plays a big role in viewership and circulation. Controversies attract nosy people. Dirt and mudslinging usually gets the attention.

The answer to this dilema is education. But education is not enough. We need good education. And good education requires talented people. What children will learn only depends on what teachers know. But education is not confined in classrooms. Most intelligent people learn from the world. But most people who can have a say are voracious readers.

Grab a book. Editors are doing it.
