The Tale of Social Distancing

A new normal that proposes absurd social premises has been pretty much talked about by media outlets, and a conclusion has been reached. Social distancing in public spaces are not only impossible but it is also very inconvenient. Whatever threat coronavirus has to public health simply cannot be sustained in the long term, because all of us need to return to our normal lives soon.

But as we examine latest statistical data in a close peek to new infections, we seem to be very comfortable in looking at patients suffering from this disease. It shows that the virus is very infectious, and the world is vulnerable everywhere but no one cares. How do we really contain such a potent virus that threatens our lives, our economy, and our freedom?

Now, leaders are hastily trying to remedy economic woes as recession seems imminent from lockdowns and commercial closures. Can social distancing really balance everything as public health authorities appeal to curb potential new wave of infections, as we slowly reopen commerce and industry?

We can only hope to an end to this pandemic. Crowded places will be in close scrutiny as scientists race to find a vaccine. This tale of social distancing is not a remedy in itself, but a manifestation that emerging diseases may impact global communities on a very large scale that science must do its very best to catch up.

Health is never compromised, but the economy needs to be functioning. We have to do our part, whether it is avoiding contracting the disease or working for the economy. If social distancing must pursue as we await a vaccine for this virus, then it is our common resolve to make it work. No matter what fairy tale we are told.
