Column: Inauguration

President Joe Biden has formally been inaugurated as 46th President of the United States. Some people can't wait for Trump to leave the White House, but it is much to the dismay of MAGA supporters. America's democracy has been divided with a deep wound from the events in recent months that some people proposed for some sort of healing now that Trump's era is over.

But many people are quick to dismiss the idea. Some even suggest that the tumor must be surgically removed first before letting the wound heal for itself. Accountability always begs the question of forgiveness, and one must think so deeply of what to do in America's mature democracy.

Trump leaves the White House being impeached, without the US Senate trying the Articles of Impeachment. He was also the first president to be impeached twice, and his legacy of his treatment of the press and bypassing the pandemic health protocols will remain in the history books for posterity to judge.

Now that a new President begins his term, many questions are yet to be answered. Cabinet nominations are usually a determinant of policy direction. A Democrat in the White House will be expected to be the exact opposite of Trump, but America's problem still remains the same. The country must deal with its own demons with the exact same resilience expected, whomever the politician is there.

Trump has enabled white supremacy in his time, sparked incidents of black lives matters, and has numerous clashes with health experts on coronavirus protocols. His supporters simply cannot swallow his defeat, because he fuels them with tweets that incite insurrection about his campaign being cheated, at least according to the Democratic party.

We must now see what happens next. America has become the greatest country in the world despite having deep divisions in political stance, making its democracy vibrant and true. A new era is dawning, and just like any other year, we need a decisive president to deal with our country's problems.
