Setting Unrealistic Goals

I always read around in books and social media that setting a goal is important in planning to succeed in anything. As a writer, I find this advice very useful, since writing story arcs, characterizations, and plot twists all require careful planning, and the added pressure of beating deadlines in every phase of the publication process.

But setting a goal is not quite easy, because for it to become realistic, goals require a time frame to allow it to be achieved. A goal without a time line is just a wish. It is just a blurry vision of what we wanted to be in the future, but nothing is really achieved without a doable action plan. Goals require suitable steps. It needs smaller goals within the time frame we alotted for the objective to fully bloom.

In addition, sometimes our goals require a set of expertise. We have to realize that our dreams are sometimes too big and it needs more time to get there to develop a certain skill set. Nothing worth having can be attained in the soonest possible time. Life is not a contest, and we just need to relax knowing that it takes ten years minimum to be really good at something.

Dreams are sometimes unmotivated, too. There are individuals who have an innate talent at something, but lacks a certain confidence to make it happen. In this case, motivational speaking becomes useful for those people to begin pursuing something that might be worth their time.

Comparison is, indeed, what kills the joy. A lot of careers do not happen overnight because it takes time to hone a talent. Expertise, in a sense, is developed through a combination of a lot of factors, of which talent is the primordial force that keeps the dynamics moving.

In this sense, confidence, especially in writing, comes in being good at doing something. For authors, a great imagination plays an important role, to be confident in writing every chapter of a book or a series. A rich imagination is the major currency. Of course, it is different in every other endeavor but the same exact principle applies.
